OVERVIEW

We offer Common Entrance (CE) history examinations at 13+ and as a scholarship examination (CASE) at 13+. Our history specification is designed by a team of setters made up of experienced Heads of Department from both prep and senior schools, and approved by ISEB’s Academic Committee for Humanities.

Our history syllabus is based on Key Stage 3 of the National Curriculum and aims to inspire a love for history among pupils, an understanding of the causes and consequences of historical events, their own and others’ inheritance, and historical interpretation and enquiry.

History for CE at 13+

Our aim in the history 13+ exam is to stretch the most able candidates, whilst still allowing less confident candidates to show what they can do and reward them for good narrative answers. Candidates taking CE history at 13+ will sit one paper, divided into two sections.

History for CASE at 13+

The CASE assessment is based on the 13+ history specification, and is designed to challenge the most able candidates. Candidates taking the CASE history assessment will sit one paper, divided into three sections.

See the history specification below for more details.
