Candidate registration for schools

A new process for registering pupils for CE, CASE and the iPQ

ISEB has changed the way schools register candidates for Common Entrance (CE), Common Academic Scholarship (CASE) and the ISEB Project Qualification (iPQ).

Schools no longer register candidates for CE, CASE, and the iPQ through the ISEB Registration Website (reg.iseb.co.uk). Candidates are now registered for these exams and qualifications in the Schools Hub on our website.

Your school needs an ISEB School Account to be able to log in to the website and access a new Examination & Qualification Registration section. This is found in the Schools Hub.

Your ISEB School Account is the same account many schools are already using to place orders for past CE and CASE exam papers on our online shop. This means schools that register candidates for CE, CASE, and the iPQ, and purchase past CE and CASE exam papers, only need one account that allows them to complete both tasks. It also means records of candidates registered are held in the same place as records of orders placed (your school’s ISEB School Account dashboard).

ISEB School Accounts have been designed to allow schools to add and edit users directly. Each account has one or more Admins, who can add users and set user roles and permissions. Each user on the account has their own login, using their own email address and password for added security.

Please visit our Examination & Registration Area for Schools to find out more about how and when to register for CE, CASE, and the iPQ.

Key Changes

The new, simplified candidate registration process puts schools in control. We hope you agree that these changes simplify the process, and help to reduce errors and subsequent amendments to candidate details.

1

Online Registration Forms

Registrations are submitted via user-friendly online registration forms found within the Schools Hub. These forms are linked to your school’s ISEB School Account, so records of registrations will be accessible from your account dashboards, and your school's contact and delivery details for exam papers are automatically synced to your registrations.

2

Bulk Uploads

Schools no longer need to enter candidates one by one. We will provide Candidate Registration Upload Template spreadsheets in Excel format, and these can be populated by schools outside of the registration system. When your school is happy with your upload spreadsheet, you can log in to the Schools Hub, submit the registration spreadsheet via the online form, and see a record of what was submitted in your ISEB School Account.

3

User-friendly templates

Schools no longer need to use letter codes to assign candidates to CE and CASE exam subjects. The Candidate Registration Upload Template spreadsheets include user-friendly drop-down options with subject names and levels.

Further information about the new registration system

  • How does the new registration process for CE, CASE and the iPQ work?

The new registration process is very similar to the previous process.

To register candidates for CE and CASE, schools need an active, verified ISEB School Account that allows users registered on the account to log in to the new ISEB website.

If you are unsure whether your school has an active ISEB School Account, you can submit a ticket on our Support Portal. Please choose the option: ‘Request to check if my school has an ISEB School Account’.

Once logged in to the ISEB website, you will be taken to the Schools Hub. From here, you will be able to access the Examination & Qualification Registration section of the website. Choose whether you would like to register candidates for CE, CASE, the iPQ (or the Exploring the Ancient World Project Qualification for state schools).

The way candidate information is submitted has changed. You are no longer required to enter candidates into a form one by one. Instead, you will add all of your candidates to a Candidate Registration Upload Template spreadsheet provided by us, and upload once, whenever you are ready.

You can download the relevant Candidate Registration Upload Template spreadsheet, and complete this at your leisure.

Once you have completed the upload template, simply submit it as a .CSV file through the relevant online registration form to register your candidates.

A record of your registration will appear in your ISEB School Account dashboard.

You can download our guide to CE candidate registration here.

  • How can schools check if they have an ISEB School Account?

If your school has entered candidates for CE and CASE in the past two years, it is very likely that an ISEB School Account was set up for your school when the new ISEB online shop launched.

If your school usually purchases CE and CASE past papers for mock exams or practice purposes, please first contact the colleague at your school who usually orders these papers.

You can also raise a support ticket on our Support Portal, choosing the option: ‘Request to check if my school has an ISEB School Account’. A member of the ISEB customer support team will be in touch with details of your account if your school has one, or information about how to set one if your school does not.

Schools who enter candidates for the iPQ but not for CE or CASE, may not yet have an account. Please raise a ticket on our support desk to check, or apply to register for an account.

  • How can state schools register for the Exploring the Ancient World Project Qualification?

The Exploring the Ancient World Project Qualification, run in partnership with Classics for All, is an initiative for state schools.

If you are a state school and would like to register pupils for this qualification, you will first need to create an ISEB School Account. Register for an account.

Once ISEB has verified and approved your account, you will be able to access the Examination & Qualification Registration section of our Schools Hub. Click on the Exploring the Ancient World Project Qualification link, and you will be taken to a registration form.

You can download and complete the Exploring the Ancient World Candidate Registration Upload Template spreadsheet at your leisure.

Once you have completed the upload template, simply submit it as a .CSV file through the online registration form to register your candidates.

A record of your registration will now appear in your ISEB School Account dashboard.

  • What do schools need to register candidates for the Exploring the Ancient World Project Qualification?

You need the same information that you needed to register candidates previously. This includes information about your school and yourself, and information about the candidates you are registering.

    About you and your school:

    • Your name
    • Your job title
    • Your school’s name

  • When can schools access ISEB's Candidate Upload Template spreadsheets?

To register candidates for CE, CASE, the iPQ or the Exploring the Ancient World Project Qualification, schools need to first populate a Candidate Registration Upload Template spreadsheet. The template for each spreadsheet is provided by ISEB in .Excel format.

Instead of entering candidates in to an online form one by one, schools can now simply populate the relevant upload spreadsheet with the information for each candidate. This can be done in your own time, allowing you to build it up over time and review the information within it. You can submit your spreadsheet whenever you are ready, as long as it is before the relevant deadline.

Please note that the spreadsheet must be saved as a .CSV file for uploading through the online registration forms.

ISEB Candidate Registration Upload Template spreadsheets are available to download from the Examinations & Qualifications section of the Schools Hub . You must have a verified ISEB School Account to be able to access this section of the website.

  • Is the registration process for the Common Pre-Tests changing?

No, the new processes for Common Pre-Tests registration launched in September 2022 remains the same. Parents will continue to register their children for the Common Pre-Tests via the new Guardian Portal. Invigilation centres and senior schools working with the Common Pre-Tests will still need to carry out administration for these exams through the new Invigilation Centre Portal and Senior School Portal.

  • My school is located outside of the UK, can I set up an ISEB School Account?

Yes, you can register for an ISEB School Account if your school is located outside of the UK to enable you to register candidates for CE and CASE exams, and the iPQ.

Access to the online shop for past papers purchases will be granted on a case-by-case basis. This is due to export VAT rules and regulations.
