Familiarisation: how can it help your child prepare for the ISEB Pre-Tests?

Familiarisation: how can it help your child prepare for the ISEB Pre-Tests?

The ISEB Pre-Tests are online, multiple-choice, adaptive tests, designed to provide an accurate picture of a child’s ability and attainment while offering a smooth, holistic test experience. The test features are efficient and innovative, but your child may not have experienced a similar kind of test before.

The ISEB Pre-Tests Walkthrough

We recommend that your child familiarises themselves with the test platform, format and adjustable features as a core part of their preparation for the Pre-Tests. The best way to explore the Pre-Tests test platform is through the ISEB Pre-Tests Walkthrough, a free tool that allows users to explore the test player interface, try out the different accessibility options, and see the styles and types of questions that might be presented in the live tests.

Your child can use the Pre-Tests Walkthrough to build confidence in navigating the digital test platform. On the day of their real test, they can feel well-prepared and focus on performing to the best of their ability.

Preparation and revision for the Pre-Tests

The Pre-Tests are mapped to the national curriculum, and your child should already be familiar with the topics covered in the Pre-Tests during their current schooling. Extra revision is not necessary for your child to excel.

However, we appreciate that some families find extra test preparation reassuring and helpful. We offer several free and paid resources to help support these families on their preparation journey.

Visit the Preparing Your Child for the ISEB Pre-Tests (11+) resource in the Pre-Tests Admissions Toolkit for a list of simple exercises and games recommended by our experts to help children prepare for tests in English, mathematics, verbal reasoning and non-verbal reasoning.

Download our non-verbal reasoning postcards, excellent exercises for children needing to work on their spatial reasoning.

Explore using Common Entrance (CE) 11+ past papers for structured revision of English and maths. Common Entrance 11+ is a paper-based exam, separate from the Pre-Tests, but both tests are mapped to the national curriculum, and cover the same content. Our resource Offline prep for online tests explains how parents can use Common Entrance 11+ past papers as useful revision resources for the English and maths sections of the Pre-Tests.

Mock tests

The ISEB Pre-Tests are online and adaptive tests, so there are no traditional, printed mock tests available.

The best way to access accurate mock exams for the ISEB Pre-Tests is through Bond Online Premium Plus, the only online test practice platform endorsed by ISEB. It is the only platform that contains questions and mock tests created by our writers and experts. Parents and guardians can try Bond Online Premium Plus for free for seven days.
